Acupuncture is a form of naturopathic medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese involving thin needles being inserted into the body. There is a diverse range of acupuncture theories, involving different philosophies.


International expansion

Acupuncture is popular in China, US,Australia, and Europe. It is most heavily practiced in China and is one of the most common naturopathic medicine practices in Europe. In Switzerland, acupuncture has become the most frequently used naturopathic medicine since 2004. In the United Kingdom, a total of 4 million acupuncture treatments were administered in 2009.An estimated 1 in 10 adults in Australia used acupuncture in 2004. Less than one percent of the US population reported having used acupuncture in the early1990s. By the early 2010s, more than 14 million Americans reported having used acupuncture as part of their health care.


Applications of acupuncture

Acupuncture is used in most pain clinics and hospices in the UK. It is most often used for pain relief in US though it is also used for a wide range of other conditions. It is generally only used in combination with other forms of treatment. In China, the application of acupuncture covers all kinds of area, from allergy, headache, GIproblem to arthritis, sleep disorders.

Some modern practitioners support the use of acupuncture to treat pain, but have abandoned the use of qi,meridians, yin, yang and other energies based in mysticism, as explanatory frameworks.

There is a long history of using acupuncture to help people in China. Its effectiveness has impressed many western medicine doctors.
